Maraschino liqueur

Maraschino liqueur

A liqueur which has been tasted by all, so why not you too…

An authentic liqueur of the Zadar region, whose recipe was noted down at the beginning of the 16th century in the Dominican monastery in Zadar. The first mixture of the liqueur, under the name “Rosolj” (from the word “Ros solis” – “sunny dew”), was made for the first time in the monastery pharmacy, which was later called MARASCHINO given that it is obtained from the essence of ripe fruits of the Dalmatian sour cherry marasca and the leaves of its young branches.

In the common folk of the Zadar region there exists a belief that Maraschino is a symbol of economic wisdom, centuries old experience, and the diligence and love of Dalmatian farm hands for his karst land. It was consumed by world lovers like Casanova, world military leaders like Napoleon, world film and literary classics like Hitchcock; it was consumed on the first and final voyage of the legendary Titanic and even the writer Honoré de Balzac (in his novel "Un début dans la vie" from 1842) wrote about it.
